Those of you who purchased Dogecoin for fun can now use the cryptocurrency to purchase AMC movie tickets. AMC Theaters, the country's largest movie theater chain, has long been pro-crypto, and its CEO just stated that the company's mobile app will soon accept Dogecoin (DOGE), Shibu Inu (SHIB), and other cryptocurrencies.
The names of the other cryptocurrencies that have been added to the list have yet to be released.
Customers in the United States can upgrade the current version of the AMC Theatres iOS and Android mobile apps to use crypto payments via BitPay integration, according to Aron's tweet.
In October 2021, AMC Theaters began accepting Dogecoin, although exclusively through digital gift cards (up to $200 per day). Its ambitions to accept cryptocurrency were publicized in August, but it wasn't until January 6, 2022, that AMC Theatres' CEO, Adam Aron, told consumers via a tweet that meme tokens DOGE and SHIB will be included by March. Despite the delay, the corporation delivered, calming the nerves of Dogecoin supporters.
Customers could buy movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) when the company initially started taking crypto payments in November (LTC). Following the announcement, Dogecoin supporters took to social media to demand that the meme cryptocurrency be accepted as well. Aron sent out a poll on Twitter, asking if people would utilize DOGE to make purchases at AMC. Yes was voted by more than two-thirds of those who voted.
Crypto payments made up 14 percent of all internet transactions, according to Aron.
